Gold mining: Become a gold digger and follow in the footsteps of gold in Waldecker Land. Near Korbach lies the Eisenberg with its old mining tunnels, which is considered to be the richest gold deposit in Germany. Between 35 and 60 tonnes are said to be stored in the region. Gold miners have been trying to extract the coveted precious metal from the Eisenberg since the Middle Ages. They painstakingly drove 20 kilometres of shafts and tunnels into the mountain by hand. Large-scale mining is not worthwhile because the gold content in the rock is too low, but you can feel the gold rush feeling in every corner. Follow in the footsteps of the gold seekers or try your luck as a gold panner.
